Alcohol education programme reaches over 100,000 pupils
CragRats are challenging young people's attidudes towards under-age drinking with the fourth phase of a national Alcohol Awareness Campaign. The programme, run in association with Diageo Great Britain, has reached 114,442 pupils over four years and features an innovative theatre production called 'Wasted' backed up by workshops and discussion forums. This year’s tour, will reach an additional 24,000 young people in 120 schools across England and Scotland. Messages being tackled include; personal responsibility, personal safety and how to make informed choices. CragRats was commissioned by Diageo GB to deliver this responsible drinking education programme, which offers a free performance to schools of the play, supported by a forum or workshop and teaching materials. The performance does not contain any Diageo branding. Since the pilot launch in 2005, 114,442 pupils have seen the play in 690 schools, and 40,000 pupils have additionally participated in the workshops. Rebecca Rodi, Social Responsibility Manager, Diageo GB: “Diageo GB is committed to equipping under 18s with the knowledge and skills to help them make responsible decisions about alcohol when the time comes. We are delighted to be working with CragRats again this year to deliver a programme that aims to challenge young people’s attitudes to alcohol. The aim is to empower them to make informed decisions about alcohol consumption in the future.” Evaluation amongst pupils and teachers who have previously seen the play, or participated in the workshops, revealed that: • 96% said it made them think about the effects of alcohol misuse • 93% learned more about how alcohol misuse can damage your health • 97% realise that drinking can affect personal safety • 98% of teachers said the presentation was beneficial for students Lindsay Richards, Account Manager, CragRats, “We are really proud of the results this programme has achieved to date, and continues to achieve. It really challenges young people’s behaviours and attitudes towards alcohol misuse and encourages them to take responsibility for making their own decisions.” For more details on how CragRats could help your organisation deliver CSR messages contact Chris Simes on 01484 686451
