Baubles to Resolutions

Taking your time to decide on changes that you want to make to your life, be it at work or at home, can help give you focus after the madness that comes with the festive period.

However, creating a list of ten or more things that you want to be, or change, at the beginning of the year could see you achieving none of them. CragRats recommend that you make your list and then decide which is most important to you. Stick with just one.

Set yourself realistic goals by making what you want to achieve SMART!

SMART goals are those that are:

Specific:
The majority of us will have put on a few pounds from excessive indulgence over Christmas. If your goal is to lose some weight, be more specific. How much? The rule of thumb here is to be specific about your goal. What exactly do you want to achieve?

Measureable:
Making your goal measurable will encourage you to continue with your action plan. When setting your target, make sure that there is a way to measure your progress and do it so that you can see how far you have come and how far there is to go.

Achievable:
This is where a lot of people fall down. Setting yourself an unrealistic goal is demotivating, you will be more likely to give up on what you want to achieve. If your goal is exceptionally visionary, break it down into smaller, bite-size goals that help you to achieve that big picture.

Realistic:
Look at the resources you need in order to achieve your goal. What do these look like? Your goal might look achievable but is it realistic in the timescale you have set or within the environment that you are in?

Timed:
When do  you want to achieve your goal by? Look at your S.M.A.R.T list and decide appropriate timescales in which to met your goal. If you are breaking down a larger goal, what are your timescales for achieving the bite-size goals? This will help you to stay  focused.

Remember, juggling too many plates only leads to broken crockery. Concentrate on one thing at a time and you are more likely to achieve what you want.
