Aimhigher Cumbria
Aimhigher Cumbria and Cumbria Institute of the Arts “Thank you for being a very important part of the Learning Theme park. You all rose to the challenge of an interactive day and the excitement of the school pupils was proof of your success. On the back of this success it has already been agreed that we want to run the event again next year!” Jon Power, Director of Planning, Learning & Skills Council Cumbria /challenge Aimhigher Cumbria, together with Cumbria Institute of the Arts, approached CragRats. The brief was to support the Aimhigher initiative at two motivational careers events in Cumbria through delivering a series of interactive workshops on Widening Participation, aimed at pupils aged between 14 – 17 years from local schools. The events would feature a range of exhibitors in a variety of ‘skills zones’, which would be complemented by CragRats seminars. The main aim would be to provide an opportunity for fun and informative hands-on learning experiences. /approach The workshops combined short theatrical sketches with interactive exercises designed to raise aspirations and develop life skills. The role play sessions focussed on interview techniques, communication skills and goal setting. /results - 94% of the young people evaluated enjoyed the workshops
- 88% of students said the workshops had made them think seriously about their futures
- 24% of students were now considering university as a future option for the first time
