/challenge

After the merger between Norwich Union and CGU, the newly expanded Norwich Union underwent a major restructuring process. The Norwich Union Conference brought together around 650 members of Business Systems staff, travelling from 7 different regional sites.

The aims of the conference were to convey key messages on the direction of the Business Systems organisation, to create a sense of involvement in the organisation and its direction and to build the team spirit of Business Systems.

It was up to CragRats to give people a common, memorable and shared experience in order to generate a shared sense of purpose. Delegates were to actively participate in the day rather than passively watch a presentation and take the opportunity to meet people from different offices.

/approach

Delegates from Norwich Union Life Business Systems were involved in the preparation for and organisation of the conference and consulted with CragRats on the content of the day’s activities. Interactive exercises including forum theatre and a choir activity were run throughout the day encouraging delegates to explore the values and attitudes of the organisation, and to focus on how as a team they wanted the business to develop.

/results

  • The feedback responses indicated that the conference contributed to almost every delegate’s understanding of Business Systems directions. 93% felt they left the venue with a better understanding
  • 82% of those who attended the event felt it was an extremely worthwhile experience, with many taking time to comment on the successful organisation of the day
